My Book Boyfriend: Puck

For those of you who don't know, MBB is a weekly meme hosted by Missie over at the Unread Reader--if you're interested in making your own MBB post, check out the intro post here!

Now I've made a previous most about Prince Ash, the dashing and handsome ice prince from Julie Kagawa's The Iron Fey series (which is freaking amazing! Just btdubbs...) and I adore Ash, but there is also a very special place in my heart for Puck, the summer jokester. What can I say? I'm a total sucker for a boy with an awesome sense of humor!

Robin Goodfellow
  • AKA Puck
  • King Oberon's favorite jokester
  • constantly pranking everyone
  • has been Meghan's best friend forever-- whilst carrying out his duty to look after her
  • red hair and bright green eyes
“It's not everyday I get to tell someone I was attacked by a pair of flying reading glasses. Ow"

“I know you'd risk everything to protect us, and that's what worries me. You still don't know enough about this world to be properly terrified. Things are going to get screwed eight ways from Sunday, and you're making goo-goo eyes at the enemy! I heard what happened in Machina's realm and yes, it scared the hell out of me. I love you, dammit. I'm not going to watch you get torn apart when everything goes bad."

“She pulled up Ash's shirt, revealing a layer of gauze that was just beginning to seep blood onto the mattress. "At least the bandaging was done properly," she mused. "Very nice, clean work. Your handiwork, I presume, Goodfellow?"
"Which one?"
"The bandage, Robin."
"Yeah, that was mine, too.”

"So," he murmured, grinning as he tilted my chin up, "before I march off to battle, how 'bout a kiss for luck?"

“You realize you've been duped by a fish," I said, watching the catfish grin at me before slipping into the dark waters, lost from view. Puck shrugged.
"Hey, it was going to name one of its grandfish after me," he said, tossing the line into the water again. "That's one of my rules, you know. I refuse to eat anything that names its kid after me.”

“Looks like nobody’s home,” Puck said, turning in a slow circle. “Hellooooooooo? Anybody here?”
“Be quiet, Goodfellow,” Ash growled, peering into the shadows with narrowed eyes. “We’re not alone.”
“Yeah? How do you figure that, prince? I don’t see anyone.”
“The cait sith has disappeared.”
“ … Crap.”

"I have always loved you, princess,” Robin Goodfellow promised, his green eyes shining in the darkness. “I always will. And I’ll take whatever you can give me.”
I looked down, unable to meet his open stare, human fears and selfconsciousness coming to the surface. “Even if all I can offer is friendship? Will that still be enough?”
“Well, not really.” Puck dropped his hand, his voice turning light and carefree again, more like the Puck I knew. “Damn not being able to lie. Princess, if you suddenly decide ice-boy is a first-class jerk and that you can’t stand him, I’ll always be here."

“I’m here,” he murmured, running long fingers through my hair. “Don’t forget that. No matter what happens, I’ll protect you.” He leaned in, resting his forehead to mine. I smelled apples on his breath, saw my own reflection in his eyes. “I’ll never leave your side, no matter what comes at us. Count on it.”
My heart thumped in my ears. I knew I was standing on the edge of a vast precipice, looking down. I knew I should pull away, that if I stayed here, a line would be crossed, and we could never go back.
I closed my eyes instead. And Puck kissed me.

“Your kind of blind, you know?" Puck whispered, smiling to soften his words. “I wouldn’t defy Oberon for just anyone. But, for you...” He leaned forward, touching his forehead to mine. “I’d come back from the dead for you.”

  3. I enjoyed Puck so much as the plucky comic relief in that series... read the entire series during a "break from blogging" week this past winter. Intense book love, let me tell you! But... Ash. Oh, Ash. (sorry, had to pause to wipe some drool.) Puck makes a great, if not entirely dependable, friend. But next to Ash... no contest. Ash. Ash. Ash. Of the two... he definitely holds my fae book boyfriend heart! But it was nice to see Puck get some love here! Great post!

  6. YES! I hadn't thought about it before, but Xavier Samuels would be a perfect choice to play PUCK. Maybe then I could stop thinking of Puck as Peter Pan. LOL

Puck was such a fun character. I especially loved him in The Iron Prince.
