Top Ten Tuesday is a super fun meme hosted every week over at the broke and bookish--be sure to go and check it out!
1. WESLEY.
2. ATTICUS.
Not sure if I'd want this one for a boy's middle name or first name, but as long as it's in there somewhere! I just think that when you even think of the name "Atticus," you can't help but have some sort of great image/expectation for that person.
Also, I just plain like the sound of the name.
3. ANNABELLE.
I'd probably play around with the spelling but I've been kind of obsessed with this name since I read Annabelle Lee (my FAVORITE Poe poem) and Just Listen (by Sarah Dessen, in which the girl's name is Annabel). Plus, you could have so many nicknames for this!
4. HOLDEN
I feel like this is a name that people usually love or hate, based on its association with the character from The Catcher in the Rye. I personally didn't hate Holden--sure he whined a lot, but what really bugged me was that HE NEVER CALLED JANE!--anyhoo, I like the sound of the name and think this would probably make a good middle name.
5. WILLIAM
Okay.... if you've been reading my blog for a little while, you probably already know/are-totally-sick-of-me-telling-you that I am pretty much IN LOVE with Will Herondale from Cassie Clare's Infernal Devices. So naturally, I'm going to put William on this list! (actually, I contemplated just putting Herondale and making that a middle name or something... but then I felt like that would be a little too obvious/weird.)
6. TRISTAN
I actually first started loving this name when I saw the movie Tristan and Isolde-- which IS also a book!--and again when I read Kissed by an Angel, which was pretty darn romantic. When I think the name Tristan, I just have this association with honor and valor and courage all that good stuff.
7. CLARA/CLARE
I came across these names through the Unearthly series and The Time Traveler's Wife and I just think the name is SO pretty! Maybe the literary characters have influenced me, but I feel like everyone I've met/read about who are named Clara or Clare are all just really nice people.
8. ASH
This name is pretty great because it could work for a boy or girl. I don't know if it's just me, but the name Ash just sounds.... really cool. Can't really explain why, but it does!
9. SCHUYLER
So... I kind of have a weird relationship with this name. When I first read about a girl named Schuyler in the Blue Blood series, I thought it was pronounced SHOO-LER. So imagine my surprise when I found out it was actually pronounced Skylar! I mean, either way, the name is really pretty and I would totally name my kid that, but I think I would stick with my first pronunciation. How about you?
10. HADLEY
This has been a recently popular name that I've seen in 3 or so books, and while it's a little unusual, I really like it! Again, I can't really explain why--maybe because I personally give the name a connotation of sweetness...? Either way, if I have a baby girl, I'd find a way to stick this in the name.
RUNNER UP: NOELLE
I originally thought this would be a hard list to make, but it turns out that I have extras! I've always liked the name Noelle, and recently, when I read about a character named Noelle Maddox, I thought it was just the prettiest name ever! I mean, maybe not pretty in a super feminine way, but a pretty-to-me way.
Awww, I love this topic!! I wanted to do it, and then I somehow changed my mind lol. I love the name Will! And Hadley :) And I completely agree with the name Ash <3 Love it, too!!
ReplyDeleteAww, great list Joie!! :) :)
Great picks. Who doesn't love Wesley in The Princess Bride? =) Thanks for telling me about Blue Bloods. I just started reading and pronounced it just like you did. Never would have crossed my mind that it's pronounced Skylar. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteOMG, you picked like the best topic ever. I love like all of these names, especially Tristan and Ash. I'd definitely give my son Atticus as a middle name. I've always planned on naming my daughter Annabelle, it's just such a beautiful name. Thanks for visiting my post. I'm a new follower! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great topic! Alot of these are names I'd give my kids as well such as Atticus, Annabelle, Ash, and Tristan.
