Top Ten Tuesday: Sites/blogs I visit that's NOT about books

Top Ten Tuesday is a super fun meme hosted every week over at the broke and bookish, designed for people like me who love to make lists.... actually, I'm not REALLY a list kind of gal... but I just love this meme!

This week's topic:

Top Ten Sites/Blogs I Frequent that are NOT about Books

1. 9gag
Without a doubt, 9gag is one of the most frequently visited sights on my computer history. I spend waaaay too much time on there.... but I can't help it! People just post the funniest things.....
I highly recommend this site.... but warning: this site is extremely addictive and time-consuming

I only discovered this sight a couple of months ago, but now I'm seriously hooked! It's a great place to just troll through pictures and discover inspiration.

I don't actually know who runs this blog, but whoever they are, they are absolutely fabulous because they post the best fashion/whimsical pictures--and they do multiple posts every day! Literally, I could spend over an hour just browsing through all the beautiful fashion photos on that blog.

4. http://patheticlifestory.tumblr.com/ (AKA Story of My Life)
Yes. I tumblr. All the freaking time. It's an addiction.... like so many other sites on the world wide web, but that's beside the point! This tumblr is super hilarious (kind of like 9gag) and posts only gifs.
Seriously. Check it out. You will laugh. LOL. Maybe even ROFL.

This is actually my friend's blog and she posts AMAZING recipes on there--trust me, I know they're amazing because I've eaten a lot of her baked goods. They. Are. Delish.
Just looking at the pictures makes me like this:

6. Hulu
I no longer have cable at my house.... pretty sad, yes. BUT! Luckily, the world wide web is absolutely amazing and I can now watch a whole smorgasbord of awesome shows!

8. Youtube.
Ah youtube. Honestly, where would we be if we did not have this amazing site? Seriously, what CAN'T you find on youtube??I go on this site everyday. Without fail.

7. Facebook.
Okay, so this is pretty much a given, but I thought I'd include it anyways because now that I actually have to name 10, it's pretty hard to list sites I visit that are not book-related.....

8. Gmail
Also a given, but come on! It's vital!

9. Elle and Blair
I don't necessarily go on this site every. Single. Day. But I love watching their youtube videos and they have some great beauty/fashion/diy posts on their blog.

10.Dulce Candy
Another blog by one of my favorite youtubers! She's super awesome and she posts tons of amazing outfits on her blog!

Top Ten Tuesdays: Favorite Quotes!

Hosted over at The Broke and Bookish :)

Goodness gracious, this week's topic was hard! I mean, it's so easy to like quotes and then add them on Goodreads or something, but when you have to pick out your 10 most favorite ones, it is extremely difficult. BUT, I have scrounged up some that I really really like, so without further adieu, here are my Top Ten Book Quotes...
(in no particular order)

1.  "You don't forget the face of the person who was your last hope."
-Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

2.“Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff - I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be.”
-The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
3.“Killing time isn't as difficult as it sounds. I can shoot a hundred numbers through the chest and watch them bleed decimal points in the palm of my hand. I can rip the numbers off a clock and watch the hour hand tick tick tick its final tock just before I fall asleep. I can suffocate seconds just by holding my breath. I've been murdering minutes for hours and no one seems to mind.” ."
-Shatter me by Tahereh Mafi

4.  “Doubt thou the stars are fire;
Doubt that the sun doth move;
Doubt truth to be a liar;
But never doubt I love.”

Hamlet by Shakespeare

5. "I love you. Remember. They cannot take it."
-Delirium by Lauren Oliver

6.  “If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it'd be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I'd do it. I can lose you like that if I don't lose you today. I'll let you go. If you stay.”
-If I Stay by Gayle Forman

7. “She will fight for light, and he for dark,
Battling through the ages for loves sweet spark.
Wherever two souls adore truly, you will find them, lo,
The brave Juliet and the wicked Romeo.”

-Juliet Immortal by Stacey Jay

8. “Demon pox, oh demon pox
Just how is it acquired?
One must go down to the bad part of town
Until one is very tired.
Demon pox, oh demon pox, I had it all along—
Not the pox, you foolish blocks,
I mean this very song—
For I was right, and you were wrong!"

- Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
(Honestly, ANY quote from Cassandra Clare's books would make my favorites list.... and honestly, dear Will could say a string of nonsensical words and I'd have to add it to my list of quotes!)

9. Literature is a textually transmitted disease, normally contracted in childhood.”
-Touch Magic by Jane Yolen

10. “Enduring and forgiving are two different things. You must not forgive the cruelty of this world. It's our duty as human beings to be angry at injustice. But we must also endure it. Because someone must sever this chain of hatred.”
-Fullmetal Alchemist

And now for some extras because there's no way I can just pick 10!

"If no one cares for you at all, do you even really exist?"
-Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

"A good friend keeps your secrets for you. A best friend helps you keep your own secrets"
-Before I fall by Lauren Oliver

“She said, If I'm leaving with a broken heart, you're leaving with a bleeding nose.”
That Boy by Jillian Dodd

“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what."
-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

"I'm an agent of Her Majesty's Secret Service," Townsend said, indignant. "I do not do booby traps.”
-Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter

"You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan. Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others. Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice, indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men."
-Persuasion by Jane Austen

Top Ten Tuesdays: Books I Want to See Made into a Movie!

Hosted over at The Broke and Bookish :)

Top 10 Books I Want to See Made into a Movie:
(in no particular order....)

1. The Gallagher Girls series (I'd Tell You I Love You, but then I'd have to Kill You; Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy; etc.)
Love love love this series. I mean, come on, a spy school for girls? Sign me up! I would love to see Cammie's awesome spy adventures translated onto the big screen. I just know they'd make it great with some great fighting scenes. Plus, I love spy movies in general, so this was a no-brainer.

2. Infernal Devices series.
DUH! Since Hollywood's making a Mortal Instruments series already, I'm really hoping for an Infernal Devices one. This series is one of my absolute favorites--so there's some trepidation that if it were made into a movie, it wouldn't compare to the book in my head, but still, I'd love to see more shadowhunters on the big screen (and by that I totally mean Will Herondale!)

3. Anna and the French Kiss
Not only is this a super cute love story, it takes place in PARIS! The Eiffel tower! The Crêperies! The movie theaters! Point Zero! Good lord, can they please make this into a movie? I'd watch it just for the setting! (But of course, they'd also need a very attractive Etienne St. Clair)

4. Don't Breathe a Word
This was a book that handles lots of tough issues like runaways, drugs, prostitution--all aspects of life on the streets. It was a pretty strong and raw novel and I think it would be even more powerful as a movie. The book definitely opened my eyes up to what life on the streets could be like and, given an actual setting and real people, I think this is one that could influence lots of viewers.

5. Heist Society
What can I say? Kickbutt teenagers stealing priceless pieces of art under extreme circumstances? Yes, that is my kind of schtick. Oh, and not to mention traveling across the world! And hilarious characters!

6. Princess Academy
Absolutely LOVED the book. I could totally see this as a timeless chick flick--but still have some action scenes towards the end.

7. Strange Angels
The author did such a fabulous job writing descriptions that I feel like I can literally picture how a movie would look like. Honestly, this series is like Buffy but quite possibly with more bite. There is action (lots of it), butt-kicking, supernatural stuff, the occasional road trip.... oh, and 2 attractive boys... y'know, if you happen to be into that sort of thing. (Hint hint movie producers: it would not be hard to make this into a ragingly successful movie)

8. Cinder
My secret weakness: Cinderella movies. Seriously. I normally do not like re-watching movies, but, I swear, I can watch A Cinderella Story over and over again. I'm a total sucker for a chick flick--and come on, a cyborg cinderella?! You know you want to watch it too....

9. Delirium
This is quite probably one of the most heart-breaking books I've read in a long time. But in painful way where you finish, your heart's in pieces, and still you say "Thank you Lauren Oliver for writing this book for the world." I'm not a big dystopian fan--in movies or books--but I would love to see this book translated on film. Granted, a lot of the beauty of this book is in the main character's inn thoughts, but I still think it would be cool for directors/producers to make  movie about a society where love is treated as a disease.

10. The Luxe
Ummm because it would be like an olden-days version of Gossip Girl! Duh. Possibly classier.

Top Ten Tuesday: All Time Favorite Characters

Hosted over at The Broke and Bookish :)

My all-time favorite characters in books...

1. Percy Jackson from The Lightning Thief (and all other books in the series)
He is just so darn hilarious, and he's such a great friend, and a mean demigod hero.

2. Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy
Hands-down one of my favorite heroines of all time. Seriously, she is just do tough and bada$$ and funny and I just loved her sense of duty and selflessness as a guardian.Oh and did I mention that she's pretty witty?

3. Cinder from Cinder (read my review here!)
Following the tough-heroine thing, Cinder is the coolest Cinderella I've ever read about! She's sarcastic, strong, and also quite selfless. Oh, and did I mention she's a cyborg and has an immediate internet connection in her head?

4. WILL HERONDALE. (from Clockwork Prince--review here)
I'm sorry! I CAN'T RESIST! I'm trying not to make this whole list about book boys....but it's so hard! If you've read some of my previous posts, you probably know I am kinda sorta IN LOVE with dear Will. Oh. My. Holy cheese on rye, you guys, he is probably my all-time favorite book boyfriend. I even like him better than Jace! If you have not had the pleasure of reading about Will Herondale, then whatareyoustilldoinghere?! Go read the books! (OR check out my book boyfriend post on him HERE
(but quite honestly, ANY one of Cassandra Clare's characters could be on this list.... Will just happens to be my all-time fave)

5. Rebecca Bloomwood from Confessions of a Shopoholic
Because.... ok, confession time: I am..... a... shopoholic. As such, I cannot not love plucky Becky Bloomwood and all her hilariousness when it comes to shopping dilemmas (such as shopping when you don't have money...)---If you haven't read the book, then I suggest you try to watch the movie; I love both the book and the movie and I think you'll love Rebecca in either media.

6. Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird
If you've read this book, then I'm pretty sure you know why Atticus is so awesome. He's just such a good person and father---and also... I like his name.

7. Puck from The Iron Fey series
Don't get me wrong, I adore Ash and Meghan together, but I freaking LOVE Puck! He's hilarious, but underneath all that humor, he's loyal, honorable, and brave--and a genuinely good guy, er faerie. Undoubtedly one of my favorite characters from the entire series (Grimalkin was a close second)

8. Professor Snape from Harry Potter
He was, by far, one of the most complex characters in the entire series! At the end of the series, he was also one of my favorite ones too because his selflessness was just so astounding, and quite frankly, kinda inspiring.

9. Sophie Mercer/Archer Cross from Hex Hall
Ok, this is kind of a two-fer but what can I say? I'm a total sucker for a character with snark and a great sense of humour!

10. Jacob Tolan from Saving June
OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS, I am freaking in love with this boy! (Him and Will Herondale) All I can say is that Harper is one lucky lady for nabbing such a snarky, but sensitive and sweet boy like him. Seriously. Swooning right now just thinking about him! If you need more convincing, check out my book boyfriend post on him here

Top Ten Tuesday: Tips for New Book Bloggers

Hosted over at The Broke and Bookish :)

Top Ten Tips for New Book Bloggers

(from what little amount of time that I have been a book blogger...)

1. Make friends and join other people's sites.
Often times, when you follow other people's blogs, they tend to return the favor and follow yours--plus it's a great way to see what other people are reading.

2. Participate in fun weekly memes, like, say, Top Ten Tuesday, so you can put your blog out there for other people to see.

3. Participate in challenges--it's fun, motivates you to read, and puts your blog out there for other people!
4. Take advantage of other social networks--like goodreads, for example, not only have I discovered book bloggers through good reads, but I can find so many more reviews, and discover books I want to read--link reviews to places like your facebook/twitter/etc.

5. (Cheesy, I know, but...) Be PASSIONATE and HAVE FUN. I don' know about you, but if I didn't seriously enjoy reviewing books and blogging, I'd probably make, like, 1 post a month or something, but I actually really look forward to posting reviews, or book boyfriends, or WoWs.

6. Turn captcha off!!!
Seriously. It's super annoying to have to do it everytime you post a comment.

7. Read what you want to read! It's your blog and you should post about things that you enjoy! Reading should be something you do for fun!

8. Be yourself!!! Again, it's your blog, and therefore for you as well as other people to read. But mainly, it's where you can talk about stuff you like so don't fee like you need to sound uber professional or posh. Just post about things that you find interesting and be honest in reviews.

9. Blogging is for fun! Honestly, I wouldn't be making as many posts as I do if I didn't love it.

10. Don't fret about the numbers! When you first start out, duh, not a lot of people will know about your blog and follow your posts, but that's okay! It takes time, and moreover, blogging should be because you enjoy it, not because you want high stats.

Top Ten Tuesdays: Books that were Totally Deceiving!

Hosted over at The Broke and Bookish :)

Top 10 books that were totally deceiving....

Finding Daddy
I thought this would be a fairly light, fluffy read about family dysfunction..... but holy cheese on rye, this book was CREEPY! Scary, even! And... a little gruesome.
If you plan to read this, be warned!

Death by Bikini
Sounds pretty weird, right? Like it should be a fluffy murder mystery.... BUT IT'S NOT. This series was so intense and action-packed that it swept me off my feet when I read this! I was very pleasantly surprised with this book.

Private series
This pretty much looked like a grown-up version of the Clique series, but my friend really recommended it, so I though what the heck?
Umm.. turns out that this series is actually super duper addicting! Seriously! And, there is a LOT more going on than just spoiled prep girls..... like, say... murders and a psychopath!

Breathing
Not sure if this really counts---it was highly deceiving to me because here I thought: Oh hey, cute story about a summer romance.... and I mean it was... but good gosh I did not expect that every single character could be talking in a southern accent! All the dialogue was pretty much written phonetically, which drove me crazy.

Saving Francesca
DO NOT judge this book by its cover. It is highly deceptive. I know it looks all cute and chick-lit-like and fluffy and a quick read.... and if you think that, then you obviously have not read Melina Marchetta's books. This book was an utter emotional rollercoaster!

Sweetly
The author makes this book out to be about Hansel and Gretal and the evil witch.... but let's just say she totally threw me for a loop when she connected it back to the fenrir (wolves).

Ultraviolet
I didn't really know what to expect from this book.... certainly some sort of supernatural element.... but DEFINITELY not what the actual twist was...
Totally. Did. Not. See. It. Coming.

Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran
I read this for school, so I was totally expecting to be like your average children's book (but in French of course).... but let's just say there were some *ahem* mature content involved.... *cough cough* les putes for one.

Identical
If you've read this, then I think you probably already know why the ending left me bug-eyed and sputtering.
No spoilers, but all I can say is.... nothing is as it seems *smiles cryptically*

Reckless Magic
The blurb talked about how one of Eden's main tasks was saving her friend from a foreign prison.... but there wasn't even any TALK about it until 4/5ths of the way through the book! Not the most deceiving thing, really, but I couldn't think of anything better...

Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Read in a Day

Hosted over at The Broke and Bookish :)

Top 10 books to read in a day...

Hex Hall series
Rachel Hawkins is the queen of writing one-sit reads jam packed with action, magic, sarcasm, and romance!

The Hunger Games
Do I really need to explain this one?

Between Balloons
A really nice, not-too-long read about falling in love and getting over the death of a loved one.

Flat-Out Love
A lovable, quirky story (with a pretty awesome romance too!) that is so addictive you'll have no problem reading it in one day.

Thirteen Reasons Why
Believe me, once you start this book, you won't be able to stop until you read the very last page.

Clarity
This book has the absolutely addictive kind of mystery that keeps people up WAY past their bedtimes just to finish.

The Percy Jackson series
Oh my goodness gracious, if you have NOT read this series, then all I can say is: You are SO missing out.... but no worries, that can be easily remedied because these books are so chock full of action and humor you'll be done with book 1 and aching for book 2 before you know it.

Wake (Dream catchers #1)
a different take on "supernatural"--no werewolves, vampires, pixies, ect. but it is super good... and suspenseful.... plus there's romance

 Death by Bikini

funny title + awesome heroine + hot guy + super suspenseful myster + action galore + kick-butt awesomeness= one good read

 Saving June
...because I am just SO in love with this book! But quick warning: get all your work done before you start this because once you start, I guarantee you won't want to stop

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at The Broke and Bookish

Top 10 books I really wanted/want to play hooky with....

The Hunger Games
If you've read this book, you know just how hard it is to put it down.

The Duff
If you asked any of my friends, you know that I have been looking forward to this book for... forever! But goshdarnit, some library-goer just had to NOT return this on time and made me wait an extra week for it!!! >:(
But, finally, this book will be mine!!!!

Clockwork Prince
I double-dog dare you to try and take this book away from me when I'm reading it.
It ain't happening!

Out of Sight, Out of Time
Oh my good golly miss molly, I read through this entire book in one sitting! It was so amazing!

Spell Bound (Hex Hall #3)
Literally, you guys, I just went into the nearest Barnes and Noble the weekend after this book came out and I just sat in a chair for 3+ hours reading this book! If there had been any school, I dunno... I just might have had to call in a sick day or something...

The Iron King (Iron Fey series)
If there was ever a series to skip school/work to read, this would probably be it.

 Jellicoe Road
Words. Cannot. Describe. How. Much. I. Freakin. Love. This. Book.

 Anna and the French Kiss
So. Goshdarned. Awesome.

 Saving June
Good Lord, this book was SO addicting! If you don't know why I'd want to play hooky with Saving June, then you obviously haven't read this book.

 Clockwork Princess
Oh. My goodness. I do not care if there is school or a dentist appointment or whatever! When this book comes out, I will be barricading myself in my room until I finish this!

Must. Know. How. Everything. Ends!

Pandemonium (Delirium #2)
Okay, actually, I own this book already..... but I'm trying to make myself wait because I've heard the ending is the mother of all cliffhangers---and I absolutely cannot stand those!

Fever (Chemical Gardens #2)
one of my favorite dystopians!

Bloodlines
Ye-ah, so this book has been gathering dust on my shelves for, oh I don't know, forever..... And I don't really know why.
BUT! I promise to get it read soon, lest I miss the bandwagon!

The Duff
Ever since I've heard about this book, I've been dying to finally read it!
FINALLY, it appears I will soon be getting it via the local library.
Counting down the days right now.

Taking Chances
Found this in passing on goodreads--immediately got a sample on my nook, which was a BAD idea because now I just really want it....

Perception (Clarity #2)
I'm a total sucker for good YA suspense + romance. That is all.

Paranormalcy
I've heard rather good things about this book---and I do rather love a good supernatural YA book

Poughkeepsie
Sounds like a rather interesting premise..... I guess we shall see. Hopefully.
