Feature and Follow #19

Follow Friday is a really fun way to make new blogger friends and promote your blog in the process! This weekly meme is hosted byAlison Can Read and Parajunkee

This week's question:
What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book?

Oh my gosh.
Without a doubt, it would be the dreaded use of INSTALOVE. (That counts as a device or trick right??) I just hate--really really hate--it when I'm reading a book and it's got a great premise and then BAM! The author smacks you in the face with a whopping case of instalove.

I tend to think of instalove as a literary tool utilized by lazy writers....
I'm sorry, that may sound harsh, but would it kill you to give me good romantic development?! I don't want love at first sight! Often times, I end up liking the hate-at-first-site romantic scenario because then I get to actually fall in love with the character.

Well, there's my two cents.
What about you? What do you hate?? Leave me a link below and let me know if you're a new follower! :)

  1. I have a feeling this one will be very popular this weekend! That's what I chose too!

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  2. Hopping through. Yup. I hate insta love. I think it's inadequate preparation by the author.

Insta Love is winning the most hated writing device contest by an overwhelming margin! Haha! I've got something different to complain about tonight:

  6. Insta-love. I'm reading a lot of inta-love this week. But I agree to all of you. It's pretty annoying.
    Here's my FF.
    Have a great day!
    *Old follower. :)

  7. I agree about inta-love. I too attributed it to laziness. I just don't buy into it and it usually takes away from my enjoyment of the book.

  8. Noooo not insta-love! Part of the reason I need to cut down on the YA genre lately, as it's pretty prevalent in it and it bugs me!

  9. INSTALOVE! I totally forgot about that one, but I hate it with a passion, too! Great choice!
Thanks for stopping by my FF'S for this week

    Happy Friday! =D

  10. Insta-love just doesn't work. I want something more from it, a deeper connection!

    Happy weekend!

  11. I'm not a fan of insta-love either. I can accept early-on love, but there needs to be some type of emotional development. Old follower.

    Happy Friday!

  12. I agree with you there. Insta-love does not happen in real life. fullstop. I mean insta-lust might, but soul deep true love? Seriously I can't understand that. I love the developing relationship through gestures & dialogues myself.

  13. I also agree on that point.

  14. Good point! That is overused. I think that instant attraction is real. But not love. Old follower!

  15. I'm okay with insta-love. I don't really hate it or anything.. Thank you for visiting me!

  16. The insta-love can definitely get on my nerves- sometimes if the book has good characters then I can let it slide! Thanks for stopping by my FF this week- really appreciate it :)

  18. I'm not sure why I didn't think of insta love. That does drive me crazy. I will still read a book but I hate when the girl becomes to obsessed.

Thanks so much for commenting! I read every single one and they always make my day! <3

*Sorry, this is now an awards-free blog as I've already been nominated for them. Thanks for your consideration!
