Dreams of Trespass: Tales of a Harem Girlhood by Fatima Mernissi
(also an assigned reading for my Contemporary Women's Text class)
All I can say right now is that it's very interesting... Raises a lot of questions about not only physical harems (which is, in reality, very different from my perceptions) but also one's internal harems.
I've never heard of this one but your idea of the story sounds very thought-provoking. .Are you reading this for school? I am missing your fangirling/ranting reviews and pushing me to read books that I don't care to read but you made me read them instead! I hope school is going good for you, Joie! Get lots of rest and sleep!
ReplyDeleteYeah, this is required reading for a class, AND I REALLY HARDCORE FANGIRLING OVER BOOKS. T__T
DeleteOn the plus side, Maggie Stiefvater is writing a new book about Cole and Isabel (from the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy) and every time I think about that I just get insanely happy. :)
Wooo, Contemporary Women's Text class! That sounds like so much fun :) I'm really interested to read this... Haven't really read many books that involved harems, let alone any that focused mainly on them. I'll have to check this one out, hope you're enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING Contemporary Women's Text!! We're reading Bechdel next which should be interesting because it's a graphic novel. You should definitely check this book out soon because it totally opened my eyes up to how orientalized our notion of a harem is.
DeleteNoted with interest I: The penultimate rolex replica paragraph of an article on 'Global Macro Investing' by Dion (Dad of David) Friedland, chairman, Magnum Funds uk replica watches, ends with the following quote:
